• The brake booster is part of the power brake system that amplifies your push against the brake pedal. This amplified force pushes against the master cylinder, which ultimately slows down your vehicle. If the brake booster ruptures or fails, you must push much harder on the brake pedal to stop your vehicle.
  
  

Gas Fumes

• An engine that uses fuel injection can rupture the brake booster if the engine is running too rich. This means that the fuel injector puts too much fuel into the engine. The gas fumes can then back up into the brake booster and cause it to deteriorate and rupture.
  
  

Leaky Master Cylinder

• The master cylinder holds brake fluid, which allows your car to slow down. If the master cylinder leaks, the brake fluid can make its way into the brake booster, causing it to rupture.
