How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a 1993 Pontiac
- 1). Open the hood of the vehicle. Disconnect the negative battery cable by loosening the bolt attaching it to the battery post. Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the post, if necessary, and gently pry it apart. Pull the negative battery cable off the post and wrap it in a towel.
- 2). Place your hand under the hood at the headlight location and feel for wires going into the electrical receptacle. Stand to the side of the vehicle, if necessary, to get a better view of the area. Place your thumb and forefinger on the electrical receptacle. Turn it counterclockwise until you feel it release from the holding tabs.
- 3). Pull the light and socket out of the light assembly lens by holding the base of the socket. Unplug the electrical connector from the socket by pulling it firmly away from the socket. Jiggle it if necessary to loosen the connection. Remove the old bulb by turning it 1/4 of an inch counterclockwise and pulling it away from the socket.
- 4). Insert a new bulb into the socket, turning it clockwise. Attach the electrical connector by firmly placing it into the socket. Listen for a snapping sound to confirm it's connected.
- 5). Maneuver the bulb in the socket back to the light assembly lens. Rotate the socket clockwise until it fits snugly into the retaining tabs.
- 6). Remove the towel from the negative battery cable and connect the cable to the negative post. Tighten the bolt, if applicable. Ensure that the battery cable is tight and can't be turned in either direction.
- 7). Park on a flat spot about 25 feet from a wall to temporarily adjust the aim of your headlights. Turn the lights on and mark the beam direction with masking tape on the wall. Adjust the headlights using the vertical and horizontal adjustment screws on the top and sides of the light assembly.
