Every diet across the planet includes many different food types as a part of the daily consumption.
This includes sources of Fibre, Protein, and Carbohydrates.
In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on the intake of carbohydrates and their impact or use within the human body, particularly with regards to weight loss.
This article aims to describe what Complex and Simple Carbohydrates are, and how they can be consumed as part of a healthy, balanced diet.
Complex Carbohydrates Complex Carbohydrates are food sources which provide sustained energy release throughout the day, over a period of several hours.
Complex carbs comprise of chains of sugar molecules which are linked together, creating a denser source of energy.
Because these molecules are stronger, they take longer to break down in the human body, allowing for a sustained energy release.
Good examples of complex carb foods are rice, pasta, potatoes, and oats.
Eaten at the right times of day, complex carbs are an extremely important factor within a balanced diet as they are the main source of energy.
Complex carbs are best consumed at breakfast, lunch and early dinner (light proportion).
Simple Carbohydrates Simple Carbohydrates are the opposite of Complex, in that they are single sugar molecules which can be broken down quicker by the body.
Because of this, Simple Carbs are considered as a quick release energy source, and are very useful if the body requires a quick top up of energy.
Examples of Simple Carb foods are fruit, raisins, cakes, chocolates, soft drinks, and table sugar.
The best sources of simple carbohydrates are the natural or unrefined sources, such as fruit.
Simple Carbs are best consumed if energy levels are depleted, or just before some form of physically demanding activity (such as a gym workout).
If you are going to consume simple carbs, consume them during the day when the body has time to use them.
If you are at work, you can get an office fruit delivery service to supply fruit baskets with a variety of natural sources.
