How to Winterize a Reverse Cycle Boat A/C Unit

    • 1). Place a bucket outside the outlet leading to the A/C unit on the exterior of the boat. This fixture leaks excess liquids such as refrigerant and antifreeze. The location varies depending on the make and model of your boat. Consult the owner's manual if you do not know the location on your boat.

    • 2). Locate the hose leading into the intake through the boat's hull. Detach this hose from the intake.

    • 3). Turn the A/C system on while holding the detached tube upright. Next, slowly pour antifreeze liquid into the tubing.

    • 4). Inspect the bucket to make sure antifreeze is pouring into it. This serves two purposes. First, it ensures that the antifreeze safely makes it into the bucket and does not pollute the surrounding environment. Second, it indicates that the antifreeze is successfully filtering through the boat's reverse-cycle A/C unit.

    • 5). Turn off the A/C unit when the antifreeze stops filtering through. Reattach the hose. Your reverse-cycle A/C unit is now prepared for winter storage.
