    • 1). Wear clothing that repels both moisture and wind. Gore-Tex provides a lightweight material that allows perspiration to escape while repelling water. Avoid wearing cotton. When wet, cotton clings to the skin and quickly cools your body.

    • 2). Use heat supplements. Activate hand-warmer packets by shaking them and placing them in all your pockets. These packets last for several hours when activated.

    • 3). Keep your feet warm with wool socks and quality boots. Slip a pair of boot blankets over each boot for added warmth. Position hand warmer packets at the tip of each boot blanket to warm your toes.

    • 4). Wear bib overalls insulated with fleece or wool. These fabrics make little noise when moving, lessening the chance of scaring game. Buy bibs with full-length zippers down the legs so they can fit easily over boots.

    • 5). Place a hand-warmer packet inside an insulated hand muff for each gloved hand. Hand muffs fit like a boot blanket and can be slipped out of easily to shoot a bow or rifle.

    • 6). Keep your head warm with a hooded mask large enough to cover your head and part of your face. In extreme cold wear, use the hood of a parka as well. This also will protect your neck in windy conditions. Activate a hand-warmer packet inside the parka hood, if necessary. Remember, most heat escapes the body through the head.

    • 7). Carry extra clothes in a pack. Do not wear all your warmer clothes while climbing up the tree stand. You will perspire more with extra clothes on, causing you to get colder more quickly once sitting in the stand. Wear lighter clothes until you get situated in your stand; add clothes as needed after that point.
