Did You Know Good Cholesterol Burns Fat

Cholesterol was first isolated in 1769; it was discovered in bile and gallstones, and. it was rediscovered in blood in 1833, but it was not until the 20th century that productive research on its structure and function was begun.  In 1985 Dr Michael Brown and Dr Joseph Goldstein received the Nobel Prize for their discoveries concerning the regulation of cholesterol metabolism. This was when the myth, "all cholesterol is bad" was born. Had the discovery not received a Nobel Prize it would not have had such an impact on our lives.

Cholesterol was considered bad and we should cut all fat from our diet. Common sense was swept under the carpet; everybody followed like blind mice.  It was not until the 1990's that good cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins, was discovered and some fats were found to be heart healthy. This discovery, of good cholesterol did not win a Nobel Prize, and did not receive the publicity of bad cholesterol. It will take a long time before people understand they require good cholesterol to maintain a healthy body.

Good cholesterols are high-density lipoproteins, and bad cholesterols are low-density lipoproteins.  Low- density lipoproteins have a partner, triglycerides. Triglycerides are perhaps easier to understand; they are fat in the blood and are used to provide energy to the body. If you have excessive triglycerides they will be stored elsewhere in the body, for example the fat on your hips and belly, are excess triglycerides.  Triglycerides are the end product of digested fat in food; they are also made from other energy sources such as carbohydrates. They are important to human life and are the source of energy.

Cholesterol is manufactured in the liver and it secretes the LDH (bad cholesterol) into the blood stream. Cholesterol levels are both hereditary and diet related. People with inherited disorders tend to develop arteriosclerosis and suffer heart attacks in early adulthood. You can visit the web site for an explanation; http://www.medicinenet.com

Cholesterol is a necessary constituent of human and animal cell membranes.  We need good cholesterol; it is building block of all cells and is necessary to control bad cholesterol.   Fat has been removed from dairy products and the little fat remaining has been altered in such a way that the body does not recognise it as an energy source and stores it as fat.

You can control your bad cholesterol by reducing your weight. Fruit and vegetables do not contain cholesterol. You require a healthy balance diet, meat should be reduced to about 4 ounces and the bulk of your meal should be vegetables. They are very low in calories and high in fibre, digest slowly and boost metabolism. There is no reason for you to forgo all your favourite foods, provided you eat them in moderation. You will reduce weight and become a healthier person as a result.
