How to Remove a Gateway Laptop Hard Drive

    • 1). Turn the laptop upside down, and locate the hard drive enclosure. On most Gateway computers, the product key sticker and gateway support phone number stickers are placed on the hard drive panel.

    • 2). Remove the two screws with a small Phillips head screwdriver. Be sure to keep these screws in a safe place as they are very difficult to replace.

    • 3). Slide the enclosure out of the laptop. Be sure to do this slowly so as not to damage the drive.

    • 4). Turn the enclosure over. You can see that the drive itself is screwed into the enclosure. This is actually a static-proof container, so only remove the drive from this accessory when absolutely necessary. Otherwise, your data can be threatened by a random shock or spark.

    • 5). Remove the holding screws to remove the drive itself. You will want to hang on to these screws as well since some replacement hard drives do not come with extra screws.
