  • One of the most common areas of an intake manifold leak involves the carburetor hold-down bolts in the area where they enter the top of the manifold. Two-barrel carburetors typically have two bolts that hold the carburetor base, while the larger 4-barrel carburetors have four bolts. Due to engine vibration and metal stretching, the bolts can come loose, opening up a gap between the carburetor base gasket and the manifold surface. The easiest remedy involves removing and cleaning the bolts, then re-torquing them to manufacturer's specifications
