    Pillowcase Tote Bag

    • A pillowcase tote bag can be used to carry books, groceries and office materials, or it can go with you to the beach. To make a pillowcase tote bag, select an old pillowcase with a pattern you find appealing. Turn the pillowcase inside out so your stitches are on the inside and not visible on the outside. Sewing can be performed using a sewing machine or by hand-stitching. Cut off 3 inches from the bottom so you have enough material to create a strap. Depending on the size of tote you want to create, cut off additional inches from the bottom and sew the bottom shut. To create a polished and chic finished product, take the open end, fold over 4 inches and hem the sides. (Do not sew the open end shut.) Add a strap for both functionality and style using the leftover material. Sew both ends to the bag to complete. Turn the pillowcase inside out to use your new tote bag.

    Pillowcase Smock

    • A pillowcase smock can prevent paint and other items from staining your child's clothing. Start by cutting a 10-inch slit in the top of the pillowcase and two 6-inch slits at the sides for your child's arms. Have your child try on the pillowcase to make sure she can get in and out of it easily. After taking the smock off, fold the bottom of the pillowcase up to create a fold that is at least 5 inches deep. To create individual pockets, measure the width of each pocket and mark using a pencil. Sew a straight line from the opening of the fold to the bottom following the pencil markings. You also can create one large pocket by sewing two straight lines on both sides.

    Pillowcase Present Bag

    • A pillowcase present bag is a good alternative to wrapping paper, or it can be used to transport gifts after a birthday party. Bags also can be decorated for seasonal events. Use a plain-colored pillowcase and draw a design on it with fabric crayons, pencils or fabric paint. You also can use transfer paper to draw your design and then apply it to the pillowcase using an iron.

    Additional Pillowcase Crafts

    • Other pillowcase craft ideas include pillowcase skirts, aprons, shirts, tablecloths, kids' clothing, pet blankets and hats. Instructions for these and other pillowcase crafts can be found online. If you have a lot of old pillowcases, make a blanket or quilt to add color and drama to your bedroom or guest room.
