How to Install a Lid Switch for a Roper Washing Machine
- 1). Unplug the washer from the wall outlet.
- 2). Remove the screws that secure the control panel to the top of the washer. The screws are located on the sides of the front or rear of the control panel. Rotate the control panel up and out of the way.
- 3). Disconnect the lid switch wire connector, which should be visible now that the control panel has been moved.
- 4). Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the spring clips at the top of the washer and pry out the spring clips to release them.
- 5). Tilt the washer cabinet toward you and move the bottom forward, then remove it. Set the cabinet down on a solid, padded surface, such as on a piece of carpet or a blanket.
- 6). Remove the ground screw from the side of the cabinet. The ground screw has a green ground wire running to the lid switch connected to it.
- 7). Remove the mounting screws that secure the old lid switch to the cabinet.
- 8). Remove the retainer clips that secure the lid-switch wires to the washer cabinet, using a flat-head screwdriver.
- 9). Squeeze the lid switch wire connector with pliers, and then remove the connector from the washer cabinet.

Snap the new wire connector in place and then secure the wires to the cabinet, using the metal retainer clips. - 11
Align the lid switch and then secure it in position, using the mounting screws you removed in Step 7. - 12
Reconnect the ground wire to the grounding screw. - 13
Reinstall the washer cabinet and control panel by reversing the steps taken to remove it.
