How to Install an Electric Pick-Up
- 1). Remove the strings from the guitar. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the plastic square retainer around the old pickup. Remove the two long screws holding the pickup to the guitar body. The pickup should now come loose, but will still be held in place by wires.
- 2). Turn the guitar upside down. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws securing the plastic electronic cavity cover on and take it off.
- 3). Set the guitar in your lap on its side so that you can see both sides at the same time. Tug gently on the pickup. Watch the control cavity in the back to see what wires are moving. They are color coded to make it easier. Draw a picture on a piece of paper of the order of the wires and where they are connected to the terminal.
- 4). Melt the solder on the old wires. When they come loose, pull on the pickup. The wires will follow out of the interior channel and out through the pickup cavity.
- 5). Wind the wires of the new pickup together into a point. Push them through the interior channel until the ends emerge into the electronic control cavity. Using your drawing, solder the wires in their respective places. Screw the cavity cover back on.
- 6). Insert the new pickup into the routed cavity where the old one came out. Screw it to the guitar with the two long screws. Screw the plastic retainer back on. Put the strings back on.
