Teenage Stress
A teenager, without knowing, is likely to reveal stress symptoms.
Believing that he is going against the world alone, coping up with the physical and emotional changes in life could be very difficult for him.
School life is one of the causes of stress in a teenager.
Moving to a new school, having too many homework and too much schedule on sports and curricular activities may lead to memory problems, lack of concentration and poor judgment, and negative thinking with constant worries.
At this point a teen should be able to know time management which can really be difficult for his age.
Parents, being able to go through adolescence, often think that they know everything and may have forgotten how if feels to be a teenager.
Parents dealing with their own concerns such as getting a divorce, while making their teens worry on getting better grades because of expectations, make the teens feel isolated, depressed and generally unhappy.
These stress symptoms are sometimes not noticed by the parents but considered only as normal mood swing among teenagers.
Other causes of stress among teens are romantic relationships, peer pressure and sibling rivalries or concerns.
Puberty and attraction towards the opposite sex are things new to a teenager.
Overwhelmed with all the physical changes and new emotional experiences, physical symptoms like diarrhea or constipation, nausea and rapid heartbeat are felt more by girls than by boys.
Changing relationship with peers due to pressure and sibling rivalries can make a teen desire for independence.
With an aggressive behavior, a teen seeks to experiment on new things...
alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking or even doing illegal drugs.
These activities may lead to emotional stress symptoms like irritability and agitation.
And for the less aggressive type of teenager, eating disorder, sleeping disorder, procrastination of duties and negligence of responsibilities are the emotional symptoms that the parents should look for in case of suspicion that their child is under stress.
Stress affects girls more than it affects boys and parents should be able to identify stress symptoms because being young makes these teens helpless at some point.
