Does Watering Plants More Lead to Faster Growth?
- Overwatering plants can cause root rot, leaf fall and flowers to develop mold. Some plants, such as carnivorous plants, need wet soil conditions, and some plants, such as succulents, need the soil to dry between waterings.
- When plants are actively growing, they need ample water to keep the soil wetness in range (damp, dry, wet or moist) of the specific plant's needs. This need for balance means watering the plant when the soil needs it and not before.
- During the winter months, the growth of many plants slows down. At this time, watering needs of the plant are reduced. Overwatering plants during winter months when the growth is slow will not make the plant grow, but can cause stress to the plant.
