    • 1). Turn on the iron. Select the setting recommended by the manufacturer of the fusible interfacing. Allow it to heat up at a safe location near, but out of the way of the workspace.

    • 2). Place the sheet of fusible interfacing on a heat resistant workspace. The side with the adhesive faces upward.

    • 3). Arrange 12 vertical strips of fabric. Place the strips of fabric on the interfacing, lining each strip parallel to a neighboring strip, each with the front side of the fabric facing upward. This should entirely cover the fusing without any overlaps of the fabric strips. This is the beginning of a basic checkerboard style of weave pattern.

    • 4). Secure one edge of each fabric strip to the fusing. Cover the lowermost edge of each fabric strip with the pressing cloth. Press the very tip of the iron to secure the about 1/4 inch of fabric to the fusing. Hold the iron in place for about 10 seconds to melt the fusing and keep the fabric from shifting when working with the strips. Set the iron aside, but do not turn it off.

    • 5). Weave one horizontal strip through the lower portion of the vertical strips. Starting at the right-hand side of the vertical strips, lift the first vertical strip and slide the new strip horizontally underneath, then pass it over the second vertical strip. Lift the third vertical strip and pass the horizontal strip beneath it. Continue the process of passing the horizontal strip over and under alternating vertical strips. Once the horizontal strip has been woven through to the left-hand side.

    • 6). Weave the second horizontal strip through the lower portion of the vertical strips. Repeat the process used with the first horizontal strip, except that this time pass it on top of the farthest right-hand vertical strip and under the second strip from the right.

    • 7). Weave the remaining fabric strips horizontally, alternating the over and under pattern through the vertical strips.

    • 8). Straighten and hand-smooth the strips in place. Ensure that each strip is flat and not crowding its neighbors. Ensure there are no gaps that reveal the fusing.

    • 9). Fuse the strips to the interfacing. Place the ironing cloth over the strips and hold the iron on the strips for a few seconds to melt the fusing. Do not glide the iron over the fabric strips, lift it each time to move to a new location. Total ironing time should not take more than one minute for the whole block. It is now ready to stitch to other quilt blocks.
