Fill several glasses with varying amounts of water. Tell your child to use a spoon to gently hit the glass and create a song using the sounds of his new xylophone.

Punch holes along the length of a paper towel roll with a pen or pencil. Cover one end of the roll with a piece of wax paper and secure it using a rubber band. Instruct your child to blow into his new horn and create different sounds by putting his fingers over the holes.

Paint some old washers with different colors of nail polish. Hang the washers on a ruler, pencil or stick by wrapping yarn around the top, threading yarn through the washers and tying the yarn ends together. Tell your child to listen to his new chime by shaking it or tapping the washers with a spoon.

Transform an empty, round oatmeal box into a drum. Take a pen and center it so that its point is in the middle of the box. Poke the pen through the box to make holes on both the cover and the bottom of the box. Measure a piece of yarn long enough to reach your child's waist if worn around his neck. Thread the yarn through the holes in the oatmeal box and tie them together. Hang the box around the child's neck. Glue pencils to empty spools and give them to the child to use as drumsticks.

Staple two paper plates together so that the inside of each plate faces the other. Punch holes along the plates' rims. Thread some yarn through the holes and tie small jingle bells to the rim. Allow the child to shake his new tambourine.

Make small oboes by flattening one end of a straw and cutting into the straw to form a point. Tell your child to blow into the pointed end of the straw. Cut into other straws and experiment with point lengths to create other sounds.

Wrap the teeth of a comb with a piece of paper. Tell the child play his new kazoo by holding the paper tightly against the teeth while blowing into them.
