How to Install Chrome Door Handles
- 1). Remove your car's inner door panel by searching for and releasing the tabs or screws located on the panel itself. These tabs are typically located along the edge of the door panel and hold it in place to the metal door frame. Safely set aside any fasteners you remove so that you can easily find them later.

Door handle mechanism
Remove the mechanical system from your existing door handle, which should include various rods, springs or pivots. You will have to remove a couple of bolts connecting the old door handle to the main rod and to your car's frame, plus you'll need to remove the key lock mechanism to pull out the old door handle. Pay extra attention to how it's all situated in relation to all of its parts. - 3). Use the permanent marker and pieces of masking tape to label the door handle mechanism so that it's easier to reinstall it once your new chrome door handles are ready to be installed. You can label each part with a number that corresponds with a number on a piece of paper that has an accompanying description of the part and where it goes in relation to the other pieces. You may want to consult the owner's manual (see link in Resources below) for reference when removing and reconnecting the mechanical system.
- 4). Using whatever wrench necessary, unbolt the existing door handle and remove it from the door.
- 5). Line up your new chrome door handle with the bolt hole and rebolt it into place, exactly as the old handle was. Don't overtighten the bolt or it may crack. Simply tighten it until it feels tight, and then give it another quarter turn to secure it properly. Some car models have a layer of water-deflecting paper under the car handle. If this is the case, reinstall the layer of waterproofing between the door handle and your car door.
- 6). Reconnect your door's mechanical system by reinstalling all of the proper bolts and screws, and replace the door panel.
