Types of Modem

• A 56K data/fax PCI modem is an internal modem, which means it is installed inside the computer itself. PCI slots are on the computer's motherboard and are used for connecting devices. The modem occupies one slot. The PCI slot supplies the modem with power and allows it to communicate with the system.
  
  

Speed

• This modem is capable of speeds of up to 56,000 kilobits per second, which is the maximum speed achievable via an analog telephone connection. However, this speed is rarely achieved because of line noise and other factors.
  
  

Fax Capability

• The ability to send and receive fax transmissions makes a 56K data/fax modem suitable for home business applications. This modem virtually eliminates the need for a separate fax machine.
