Some women don't mind shaving frequently, but for others, this simple beauty act is a dreaded chore. For the latter, finding a way to permanently remove unwanted hair is an idea that will save them hours of aggravation and annoyance. There are a few ways to permanently remove your hair, and while they range greatly in price, they also range in effectiveness, so be aware that you usually get what you pay for. - According to the American Electrology Association, electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal that is actually permanent. The process is recognized by the FDA and is supposed to work on any kind of hair, no matter how stubborn or deeply embedded the root is. Electrolysis also works on all skin types and has no known negative side effects.
Electrolysis works by shooting a tiny amount of electricity into the skin, killing the hair follicle and destroying the root so that it cannot grow back. It utilizes a small needle to perform this procedure and usually takes somewhere between fifteen minutes to an hour, depending on the hair and skin of the woman receiving the treatment. Electrolysis can sometimes take more than one session to be completely effective if the hair is very stubborn or coarse.
The cost of these sessions ranges greatly depending on where you live, how much hair you are looking to remove, how coarse your hair is and how long the session takes, so it is best to consult with a certified electrolysis professional in your area to get an estimate. One downside of electrolysis is that it is usually slightly painful. - Laser hair removal is similar to electrolysis in that it requires treatments and, possibly, multiple sessions based on coarseness and thickness of hair, but rather than working with electricity, it utilizes laser beams. The process works by combining high-intensity light with controlled energy forces to zap the hair follicles at their roots. Although the light that reaches the follicles is hot, you should not feel the heat on your skin.
Like electrolysis, laser hair removal is not completely painless; it should only produce a tingling feeling in most areas. If you choose to use this treatment on more sensitive areas, it might feel like a slight burn or pinch that passes quickly. The only side effect that it has been known to produce is a temporary reddening of the skin area.
Laser hair removal usually takes about six sessions to be completely effective and also ranges greatly in price. - Doing laser hair removal treatments at home is not the most common way to have this treatment done and is not necessarily recommended by certified professionals, but it is cheaper than getting treatments done in a salon. If you feel brave enough to attempt this, you can purchase a laser machine and treat yourself to the sessions in the same way that a salon would do them. These machines work the way normal laser hair removal works and come with an instructional DVD that guides you through the process.
Because these machines are slightly less powerful than a professional one, they are meant for easy-to-remove hair and are not recommended for those with coarse or thick hair.
