How to Repair a Refrigerant Pressure Line on a Refrigerator

    • 1). Unplug the refrigerator so it stops running. Pull it out carefully from the wall and locate the copper pipe. Run your hands over the pipe and figure out exactly where the leak is coming from. Hold a small pan under the leak and let all of the water drip down into the pan.

    • 2). Mark each side of the leak. Measure one inch past each side and mark the cut location with a black marker. Cut out the damaged pipe with a pipe cutter. Grip the pipe cutter around the pipe at either mark and squeeze it together to snap the pipe. Repeat the process for the other mark on the copper pipe.

    • 3). Match up the thickness of the pipe you just cut off with a pipe sleeve 1/2-inch thicker. The pipe sleeve will fill in the gap on the copper line that you just cut out and slide over the pipes. Clean out the inside of the pipe line from where you just cut out the damaged piece. Stick a clean rag into the pipe and remove anything that may be clogging the line.

    • 4). Slide the copper repair sleeve over the pipes on both sides. Center the pipe over the lines so there is 1/2 inch covering the pipes on each side. Turn on a propane torch and hold the tip of the torch to one of the joints. Hold it in place until enough melts to fill the joint.

    • 5). Move the propane torch to the other side of the sleeve and repeat the exact same process. Heat it up until it melts and forms into the pipe. Slide the refrigerator back in place and plug it back in.
