Why Choose Stevia Over Artificial Sweeteners?

Stevia (stevia rebaudiana) and artificial sweeteners are both zero calorie sweeteners, but are very different in their nature.
Stevia is an herb that has been known to be used in South America for hundreds of years, particularly in Paraguay by the Guarani Indians.
Studies have shown that stevia helps digestion and supports the functions of the gastrointestinal tract.
Studies have also revealed its assistance with blood pressure regulation, stabilizing blood sugar levels, and tooth decay prevention.
Antibacterial and antifungal properties of stevia have also made it useful for skin wounds.
Stevia is all-natural, has no chemicals, and no calories.
There is an increasing number of health food companies producing their own stevia product, so you should be aware that these various companies produce stevia rebaudiana differently.
For example, some companies produce white powdered stevia, which is overly processed and lacks any nutrition, while other companies manufacture a lesser processed form.
It would be wise to do some research in finding the best quality stevia, so that you know you have the chance to receive its health benefits.
Artificial sweeteners: aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin, also known under the brand names of Nutrasweet, Splenda, and Sweet n' Low, are zero calorie sweeteners that have been readily accepted as safe.
These types of sweeteners, however, are made with artificial chemicals that can produce negative effects in the body.
For example, the FDA has received thousands of aspartame related complaints.
There are also numerous complaints from the use of sucralose, such as stomach pain, gas, and diarrhea.
As for saccarhin, studies have shown that saccarhin causes cancer in laboratory animals.
You will find both sides to the argument on whether artificial sweeteners are safe or not, but based on consumer complaints and study results involving laboratory animals, I prefer the safer alternative: stevia.
When comparing stevia to artificial sweeteners, it only seems logical to choose stevia.
It makes sense to pick a sweetener that can provide health benefits, as opposed to choosing one that may do the exact opposite.
Stevia can be a great help for those not only wishing to cut back on calories, but who are also concerned about their health and safety.
There have been no documented side-effects, warnings, or contraindications from stevia.
Multiple tests have been performed world-wide, showing stevia to be completely free of toxins.
Artificial sweeteners, on the other hand, have shown to be questionable, at best, regarding their safety in the human body.
