Can't wait to literally see Amsterdam? I know what it’s like to feel impatient to finally set foot in a city and scour every crevice, so for those of you who want a head-start, here are ten Amsterdam web cams to hold you over until your trip.
This web cam takes in the splendid view onto Dam Square, one of the most monument-studded spots in Amsterdam, from the Madame Tussauds wax museum. The cam covers most of the attractions on the square, from the National Monument, De Bijenkorf department store and Hotel Krasnapolsky on the east side of the square to the Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace) and Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) on the west.More »
Terena's web cam captures the sound and vision of everyday Amsterdam; listen to the bicycle (and tram) bells, the rustle of wind in the trees and the familiar hum of traffic. (It really sets the mood for me to write about Amsterdam!) The web cam is located near such attractions as the Bloemenmarkt (Flower Market), Munttoren (Mint Tower) and Kattenkabinet (Cat Cabinet, a museum of feline-inspired art).More »
The "DonnieCam" looks out onto an Amsterdam canal scene that’s full of life in the day, romantic after dusk. The narrow houses that border the canals make for a picturesque scene that is unmistakably and uniquely Amsterdam.More »
Fellow expat Scott Owen, a Canadian based in Amsterdam, offers voyeurs a view onto the Panamalaan in Amsterdam East (complete with current weather conditions) - not far from Brouwerij 't IJ and KNSM Island, and just a little farther to Artis Royal Zoo and the Tropenmuseum (Tropics Museum).More »
Views from three web cams on the Overtoom, the road that leads to Amsterdam’s popular Leidseplein; each has a refresh rate of 15 seconds.More »
Watch local all-stars compete each other in pool at the Nes-cafe (so called because of its location at Nes 33), a bar and pool cafe with a laissez-faire policy towards cannabis smokers.More »
These are worthwhile for a quick peek or if you have a special interest in one of these areas.
