How to Play Water Drums
- 1). Lay your water drum on a flat surface. When first learning to play, it is easiest to rest your drum on a stable surface to keep the drum from shifting or falling.
- 2). Hold the drumstick in your predominant hand and gently tap the drum surface. You can alter your speed as you tap the drum to increase or decrease the frequency of your drumming as you prefer.
- 3). Strike the surface harder for a deeper, richer tone. A firm strike will cause the water to vibrate harder and will change the sound of your drum.
- 4). Use your hands to tap the drum for a different sound. Your hand is much larger and spreads the force of your drumming out over a larger surface, resulting in a longer, flatter tone.
- 5). Pick up your drum once you've practiced and hold it as you drum. The water will move to the bottom portion of the drum and create a higher tone as the sound resonates through a smaller area.
- 6). Change the speed and force of your drumming to alternate sounds, and you can even strike the drum with a variety of other objects to produce a number of sounds.
