    • 1). Trace the sole of one foot on to a sheet of cardboard. Round out the toe and arch lines, then cut out the shape.

    • 2). Trace the cardboard footprint onto a folded sheet of paper so that one side of the footprint lies along the folded edge and the bottom of the footprint lies several inches from the bottom edge of the paper. Draw a semi-circle extending around the contours of the foot to the folded edge of the paper. Cut out the pattern, preserving the folded edge.

    • 3). Unfold the pattern and mark a line down the center of the two sides of the pattern, side A and side B. Fold sides A and B over towards the center line and crease. On side A, draw a line from the bottom edge of the pattern down half the length of the moccasin. Mark these points as points C and D. On side B, measure a horizontal distance of 1 inch along the bottom edge of the pattern on either side of the folded crease. Mark two vertical 1-inch lines E and F at these points. Fold the pattern in half horizontally. Mark a 3-inch line extending horizontally from either side of point C. Mark the endpoints of this line as points G and H. Cut along each line drawn on the pattern: lines E and F, the line from C to D, and the line from G to H.

    • 4). Make a pattern for the tongue of the moccasins. Trace a semi-circle 3 1/2 inches high by 3 1/2 inches wide onto a scrap piece of paper. Cut out the pattern.

    • 5). Cut out the leather for one moccasin from the pattern for the body and the tongue of the shoe. Make cuts in the leather along the lines cut into the pattern. Flip the pattern and repeat for the opposite foot.

    • 6). Fold the leather along the center fold of the pattern, suede side facing inward. Stitch together with a needle and artificial sinew, using a whipstitch. Sew around the toe and down the side to the heel. Repeat for the other shoe.

    • 7). Turn the leather right-side out and try the moccasins on. Adjust fit, pinch the heels, and trim and sew as necessary.

    • 8). Sew the tongue into each shoe along the horizontal line cut at the top, marked from points G to H on the pattern.

    • 9). Cut a series of slots, 3/8-inch wide, around the top of each moccasin. Thread the leather laces through the slots.
