How to Use Natural Remedies to Decrease Acne
- 1). Rethink your diet. Diet can have a significant impact on the prevalence of acne. Refined sugar and carbohydrates increase insulin levels, which impact hormones. These hormonal changes can cause breakouts and increased oil production in the skin. Decreasing the consumption of these foods can positively impact skin health.
- 2). Get hydrated. Consuming 64 oz. or more of water daily can help flush the body of unhealthy bacteria and toxins. Water also helps to keep the skin moisturized, which may reduce oil production.
- 3). Use a cold compress. People often pick at their blemishes in an attempt to reduce size and swelling. However, this only irritates the skin and forces bacteria further into the pore. A cold compress on the pimple can reduce redness and swelling.
- 4). Try some lemon. The alpha hydroxy acids found in lemon juice help eliminate dead skin cells and cleanse your pores, and also promote new skin cell growth beneath the old. Lemon juice can be used as a cleanser diluted with water, or just place lemon juice on a cotton ball and swab specific trouble spots.
- 5). Apply tea tree oil to infected skin to kill bacteria. Tea tree oil works as a disinfectant that kills bacteria residing in the pores. However, make sure to dilute tea tree oil with water or purchase a product that is already diluted because the pure oil can irritate the skin.
- 6). Revitalize with vitamins. A variety of vitamins have been found to reduce the severity of acne. Zinc helps reduce inflammation and heals damaged skin. Vitamins A, E and B have also been found to decrease the prevalence of acne when taken as daily supplements.
- 7). Fight acne with fenugreek. Fenugreek leaves, crushed and made into a paste, make an effective topical treatment for acne. The paste should be applied in the evening and washed away the following morning. Water boiled with fenugreek seeds can also be used as a cleanser.
- 8). Use garlic in and out. Both consuming garlic and using it as a topical treatment can help prevent acne. Raw garlic can be rubbed on the skin to destroy bacteria.
