How to Make Holiday Greeting Blocks
- 1). Decide what your holiday greeting will say. Limit the greeting to two or three words: "GIVE THANKS" for Thanksgiving or "TRICK OR TREAT" for Halloween.
- 2). Measure and mark off every 3 1/2 inches on a 2-by-4 piece of lumber.
- 3). Cut the lumber into 3 1/2-inch blocks using a circular saw. Cut one block for each letter of your greeting.
- 4). Use coarse sandpaper to smooth any rough edges.
- 5). Choose two or three acrylic craft paint colors that represent your chosen holiday.
- 6). Dilute the paint in a small container using 1 part paint to 4 parts water.
- 7). Use a 1-inch-wide sponge brush to paint each block one color.
- 8). Allow the blocks to dry.
- 9). Squeeze undiluted black acrylic paint onto a flat plate.
- 10
Hold a 2-inch letter stencil firmly in place on the front of a block with one hand. - 11
Dip a small sponge in the black paint with the other hand. - 12
Dab the sponge on the block, filling the stencil opening with black paint. - 13
Lift the stencil off the block carefully. - 14
Stencil one letter on each block until you have spelled out your greeting. - 15
Allow the blocks to dry. - 16
Display your blocks spelling out your greeting by lining them up or stacking them on the mantel or coffee table.
