Tassel Instructions
- 1). Measure a piece of heavy cardboard that is 1/2 inch longer than you want your tassel to be. If you need a specific length, use a ruler, or just eyeball it. Cut out your cardboard template with scissors or an X-acto knife.
- 2). Cut two pieces of yarn or string: one to hang the tassel and another to tie off the top section. Allow yourself at least 6 inches of yarn to tie off the top. Cut the hanging string twice as long as you need; it will be folded in half.
- 3). Lay the hanging strand horizontally across the top edge of your cardboard template. Leave an equal amount of yarn on both sides.
- 4). Begin wrapping the cardboard with yarn. Lay the end of the yarn even with the bottom of the cardboard and wrap vertically. Wrap more times for a thicker tassel, less for a thinner one.
- 5). Pull up the two sides of the hanging yarn and tie it in a knot. Tighten the knot at the top of your wrapped yarn.
- 6). Stick the top blade of your scissors between the cardboard and the yarn at the bottom of the template. Cut straight across to free the cardboard.
- 7). Wrap the 6-inch strand of yarn all the way around your tassel, approximately 1/2 to 1 inch from the top. Tie it in a knot to gather the hanging yarn and create the top ball of your tassel.
- 8). Trim the hanging strands with scissors to even them out, and shake your tassel to fluff it.
