How to Improve Wi-Fi Antenna
- 1). Move a USB Wi-Fi antenna closer to a window or door. Radio waves like Wi-Fi are directional, so a line-of-sight placement of the antenna is best for improving the signal.
- 2). Connect the USB extension cable between the USB Wi-Fi antenna and the computer. USB cables do not suffer the signal losses of coaxial cable.
- 3). Test for increased Wi-Fi signal strength on the computer screen.
- 4). Modify a tin juice can, a pie plate or other parabolic surface to increase the signal capture. Cut a section of the item surface to enable the USB Wi-Fi antenna to fit through the wall of the can or the center of the parabola. Use glue or silicone caulk to affix the USB antenna to this reflector.
- 5). Mount the reflector on any sort of stand to elevate the antenna further. Screw the assembled antenna to an exterior wall, balcony or roof if possible using lag nuts and the socket wrench.
