How to Create an Elegant Table Design
- 1). Select a color scheme for your elegant tablescape. Choose colors that coordinate with the theme of the event, harmonize with the colors in your room or reflect your personal taste. For example, if you're hosting a Christmas dinner, pick a red-and-white color scheme; for a beach-themed banquet, select a sand-and-light turquoise scheme.
- 2). Cover the table with linens. Place a heavy, solid-color tablecloth on the table and top it with a sheer overlay or display a runner on top of the tablecloth, down the middle of the table. For example, for a Christmas event, place a white tablecloth on the table and top it with a sheer white overlay; for a beach-themed event, select a sand-color tablecloth and place a turquoise runner down the center of the table.
- 3). Set silver- or gold-colored chargers at each seat. Top the chargers with dishes that coordinate with the theme. For a Christmas dinner, alternate red and white plates and for a beach affair, use simple white plates with silver rims. Use cloth napkins that match the color of the table coverings and set them on top of each plate.
- 4). Display an eye-catching centerpiece on the table. For Christmas, place red glass ornaments on top of crystal candlesticks and set them out along the center of the table with tea lights positioned between them. For a beach-themed party, fill a glass hurricane vase with shells and/or sand , place a pillar candle in the center of it and set it on top of a circular mirror in the center of the table.
- 5). Dress up the chairs and make them part of the table setting. Drape organza or tulle fabric over the chairs in a shade that coordinates or contrasts with the color scheme. For a more simple decorative accent, tie decorative ribbons around the back of the chairs and allow the ends of the ribbons to flow down the back of the chairs.
