How Do I Remove the Coolant Fan in a '98 Chevy 3500?
- 1). Open the driver's door and check to make sure that the ignition is in the off position and the key is removed. Pull the hood release lever.
- 2). Raise and support the hood on your 3500. Locate the battery and remove the negative cable from its post with a socket wrench. Position the cable away from the battery and any other metal it may contact.
- 3). Remove the four mounting nuts from the rear of the cooling fan with a socket wrench. You may have to hold the fan in place while you loosen the nuts. Use care so that you don't damage the fan blades. If you need to, use a step ladder to decrease the awkward positioning.
- 4). Pull the cooling fan toward you, off its studs, and lift it out of your truck's engine compartment.
- 5). Lay the cooling fan down on a flat surface with the clutch attached to the front of the fan facing down. Remove the four bolts that attach the clutch assembly to the fan with your socket wrench. Lift the cooling fan off the assembly and discard it if you no longer need it.
