Vocal range extension, as mentioned in the previous part of our course, can be done individually and will, given due time, result in the ability to sing more kinds of music.
Yet in establishing that we have only mentioned one of the many ways in which a singer may develop.
Other ways exist, and although may seem as difficult as the aforementioned activity at a glance they do not necessarily require professional guidance.
Granted, some singers need a vocal coach to find there vocal range and push them in the right direction.
However even the cheapest singing lessons cost a fair bit of money.
Consider therefore the following before you sign up for classes: First of all gauge your commitment to singing.
If you are satisfied with your abilities and are not considering a singing career there is no real need for spending your money on classes.
If however professional or self-developmental motivations urge you on you have all the reason in the world to enlist a teacher.
Secondly analyze where you are in the development of your singing skills and whether or not you are still improving on your own.
If the answer is yes you might not need a singing coach just yet.
If the answer is no the aid of an experienced helper might be just what you need to push yourself to further heights.
Thirdly make sure you are aware of your learning aims.
Consider these in terms of voice mechanics, music and performance styles, ear training and music theory.
That done look into self-learning approaches before you take for granted that a vocal coach is the only option you have to achieving your goals.
It might well be that you are unable to get there yourself, but it does not hurt to try the free alternative before you decide to pay a sizable fee.
Finally do some market research.
Find out who is well-thought-of by past clients, who is experienced and able to provide instruction in the skills you wish to develop and what rates normally should be per session.
Follow these points to determine whether singing classes are for you and, if so, to ensure that you will be satisfied with the tutor you choose.
Yours, Steve
