How to Access the Evaporator in a Kenmore Refrigerator

    • 1). Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet. If the outlet is inaccessible, turn off the refrigerator breaker in your fuse box.

    • 2). Remove the contents from the freezer, including the shelves.

    • 3). Remove the two screws at the rear of the bottom freezer panel.

    • 4). Remove the two screws at the front of the bottom freezer panel, just behind the door jamb.

    • 5). Lift the bottom freezer panel up and out of the freezer.

    • 6). Pull the air tower, which is the large plastic piece on the center of the rear freezer wall, off to expose the evaporator fan.

    • 7). Remove the screws securing the rear panel of the freezer and then remove the rear panel to expose the evaporator. On most Kenmore freezer models, there is a mounting screw located to the right of the evaporator fan and in the upper-left corner of the rear panel.
