How to Access the Evaporator in a Kenmore Refrigerator
- 1). Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet. If the outlet is inaccessible, turn off the refrigerator breaker in your fuse box.
- 2). Remove the contents from the freezer, including the shelves.
- 3). Remove the two screws at the rear of the bottom freezer panel.
- 4). Remove the two screws at the front of the bottom freezer panel, just behind the door jamb.
- 5). Lift the bottom freezer panel up and out of the freezer.
- 6). Pull the air tower, which is the large plastic piece on the center of the rear freezer wall, off to expose the evaporator fan.
- 7). Remove the screws securing the rear panel of the freezer and then remove the rear panel to expose the evaporator. On most Kenmore freezer models, there is a mounting screw located to the right of the evaporator fan and in the upper-left corner of the rear panel.
