How to Design Your Own Hockey Shirt

    • 1). Browse through ideas for your hockey shirt by viewing the jerseys posted at an online store such as The Sporting Goods Store or NHL.com.

    • 2). Choose the color of the hockey shirt you wish to purchase and buy it at your local sporting goods store. Colors range from white to bright orange and also come in mixed patterns such as black and yellow or blue and green. You may choose to buy a size bigger than you would a T-shirt if you want a loose fit.

    • 3). Decide on an iron-on image that will take up the majority of your space on the shirt. Iron-on images can be bought online, in the craft section of department stores, or at your local sporting goods store. You may want to buy iron-on transfers that include the same colors as those in the shirt you bought. If you buy a team decal, make sure the color of your shirt is the same as the team would wear.

    • 4). Lay the shirt on a flat surface (an ironing board is best) and iron on your image. Follow any directions found on the iron-on packaging.

    • 5). Add fabric paint, decals and any flair you wish to the hockey shirt after the iron-on image is cooled. You can glue your decals or flair onto both sides of the shirt, doing either one side at a time or using a dress form to enable you to do both sides at once.

    • 6). Allow the paint and glue you've applied to the hockey shirt to dry for at least 24 hours before attempting to wear it.
