How to Remove Junk and Clean an Estate
- 1). Rent a dumpster from a waste removal company. Most companies offer dumpsters in different sizes. The dumpster allows you to throw away a lot of items and large items. Have the dumpster placed as close to the estate as possible.
- 2). Put on the work gloves. Line a trash can with a trash bag to throw smaller items away.
- 3). Go through one room at a time. Some estates have several floors of room, making it seem overwhelming. Remove the furniture, first. Throw away anything broken, molded or in poor shape. Transport the items you are keeping from the estate. If you decide to donate items to a charity, contact the charity to find out about pick up and delivery.
- 4). Sort through smaller items like clothes, nick-knacks, toys, games and artwork. Throw away the unwanted items.
- 5). Vacuum the floor, regardless if it has carpet or not. Mop all hard floors after vacuuming to removes stains or stuck-on dirt. If possible, steam clean the carpets.
- 6). Spray all-purpose cleaner on counters, stoves, sinks, toilets, tubs and other surfaces. While wearing gloves, scrub the surfaces with a sponge or brush to remove dirt.
- 7). Pour four to five drops of dish soap into a mop bucket. Fill it three-fourths full of hot water. Dip a sponge in the water. Scrub the walls of the estate with the water and sponge. Not only will the walls look cleaner, but the room will smell cleaner.
- 8). Remove curtains, drapes, blinds and other window coverings. Throw away any broken blinds. Wash fabric window coverings in a washing machine or have them dry cleaned. Spray window cleaner on all the windows. Wipe down the glass. Fill a mop bucket halfway with water. Add two drops of dish soap. Dip a rag into the soapy water and wipe off the windowsills and molding. Use the water to clean the doors of the estate, also.
