How to Use a Framing Square for a Circle
- 1). Lay the framing square float on the surface you wish to make a circle on. Decide the diameter of the circle desired. Draw an "X" at the zero mark along the longer edge of the framing square. Draw another "X" at the distance that corresponds to the diameter needed. For example, an "X" would be placed at the 10-inch mark to create a circle with a 10-inch diameter. Then half-way between the the two "X" marks will be the circle's center.
- 2). Remove the square and hammer a small nail into the surface at each "X" mark.
- 3). Place the framing square back on the surface with its inner edges against the nails. Hold the pencil against the inside corner of the framing square. The idea is too slide the left side of the framing square along the left nail while keeping the right nail flush against the device. As the pencil moves, it creates a half-circle between the nails. Slide the square until the pencil gets to the left nail. Then slide the framing square toward the right nail to finish the half-circle. Place the framing square on the other side of the nails and repeat the drawing process to create the other half of the circle.
