How to Remove the Top of a GE Top Load Washer
- 1). Unplug the power cord of the washer from the outlet in the wall. This safety precaution is taken any time work is done on an electrical appliance.
- 2). Pull the washer away from the wall several inches. This provides room for the top of the washer to tilt back. The top only needs to lift up and out of the way to make repairs on the washer.
- 3). Slide the putty knife between the top of the washer and the front panel. There is a spring clip on either side of the top several inches in from the sides. Locate the spring clips with the putty knife, one at a time.
- 4). Press the putty knife into each spring clip to release it. This releases the top and allows it to lift up and lean against the wall.
