How to Shop for Bath Towels
- Cotton is the most absorbent fabric, so check to make sure the towels you are considering are not mixed with another fabric, such as polyester. The most luxurious towels are made from one hundred percent Egyptian or prima cotton. Also consider the GSM, or grams per square meter. The higher the GSM, the fluffier the towel. A plush towel is great for at home, but might not be as practical for taking to the gym or on a trip. Another term you might come across is terry cloth, which is a type of weave. The looped pile of terry cloth is super absorbent and durable.
- Egyptian cotton is highly absorbent and is soft yet durable. Prima cotton is similar in quality, and is grown in the United States. Turkish cotton is extra durable and has a natural sheen. These tend to be among the most bulky of towels. Bamboo is an alternative to cotton. It has a natural anti-bacterial property and dries faster than cotton.
- Towels come in every color of the rainbow. If you are buying a gift, white or neutral shades can complement most any color scheme. If buying for yourself, consider other features of your bathroom other than the walls. You could chose a color that matches a tiny decoration or an aspect of your shower curtain. There are no rules, so just go for what makes you happy.
