How to Change the Timing Belt on a 1995 Toyota Camry
- 1). Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery.
- 2). Raise the engine with a floor jack to remove weight from right (timing belt side) engine mount.
- 3). Remove the timing belt cover, five bolts, and two gaskets.
- 4). Slacken the No.1 idler pulley bolt.
- 5). Move the No. 1 idler pulley outward, as far from the timing belt as possible and retighten the pulley
- 6). Remove the pulley using a gear puller. Hold the crankshaft pulley with a pulley holder and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, plate washer and timing pulley.
- 7). Remove the No. 1 timing belt cover and gasket.
- 8). Remove the timing belt from the crankshaft sprocket.
- 9). Install the No.2 idler pulley.

Turn the crankshaft so the timing mark on crankshaft sprocket (12 o'clock position) aligns with the timing mark on the oil pump housing, using a crankshaft pulley bolt. - 11
Install the timing belt in the following sequence pattern: on the crankshaft sprocket, oil pump pulley, No. 1 idler pulley, water pump pulley and No. 2 idler pulley. - 12
Install the No. 1 timing belt cover with four bolts and a new gasket. - 13
Align the crankshaft pulley, tightening the bolt according to specification using a crankshaft pulley holding tool, and rotate the crankshaft clockwise so cylinder No. 1 is at the Top Dead Center mark. - 14
Install the camshaft by aligning a hole in the camshaft sprocket with the alignment mark on the camshaft-bearing cap. Add the install plate washer and a bolt, using a torque wrench with a fulcrum. - 15
Rotate crankshaft pulley No.2 clockwise and set the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley aligned with the mark on the No. 1 timing belt cover. - 16
Turn the crankshaft clockwise 1 and 7/8 revolutions and align crankshaft pulley mark with the Top Dead Center mark on the No. 1 timing belt cover. - 17
Secure the No. 1 idler pulley bolt. - 18
Install the No. 2 timing belt cover along with gaskets. - 19
Tighten the spark plugs using a 16 mm plug wrench.
