Things to Look for When You Need a New Windshield

You are driving down the road and the chip that you have promised yourself to €take care of€ when you have time (does anyone really have time), has just run across the windshield like the proverbial hare in the €Tortoise and the Hare.€ You may have uttered (or thought of) a few choice expletives, and decided that you are going to have to take care of the entire windshield, spare time or not. There are many options available for you to choose from to get your windshield replaced.

If you have comprehensive coverage on you automobile insurance, the cost of the replacement may be covered under your current policy. Most of the time, if you file a claim under your auto policy to replace your windshield, your rates will not increase. If you are in doubt as to how your current insurance provider handles claims for auto windshields, make sure to ask your agent before filing a claim. In this way, you can learn ahead of time, and if the policy rate will increase, you may decide that paying the cash price for the windshield may be better.

Some insurance companies will suggest that you go to a specific shop for the replacement of your windshield. They can recommend someone, and you can take your car to them, or you can choose another shop to do your replacement. There is in fact a law that prevents companies from forcing their insured to go to a specific shop.

Since it only takes about sixty to ninety minutes to replace your windshield, you can easily have it done over a lunch hour (a little over) or after work. Many people select the convenience factor of a mobile installation in order to streamline the process. This may be the best option for you, but some shops charge more for a mobile installation. Most insurance companies will pay for a mobile windshield replacement, but if you are unsure, again it is better to call and ask before you make any appointments.

When you have your windshield replaced, many companies offer free chip and crack repairs and a limited warranty. This can make it a lot easier for you to avoid a full replacement in the future, since you will have another chip or crack - it is pretty close to inevitable if you drive. Asking what follow-up services are available to you from your auto glass installers can help you plan for any future mishaps.
