DJ Tutorials: How to Mix
- 1). Connect your headphones to the mixer. Despite what plays outwardly on your speakers, should you connect some, you will hear what is playing on both audio sources. This is essential to timing and aligning the songs for transitions.
- 2). Cue the songs or sounds you will be mixing. Listen to each side audio source as you line them up so that you are aware how long it will take for them to begin when you push "Play" on your audio source.
- 3). Slide the crossfader handle fully toward one audio source. Listen to the other audio source in your headphones and cue it so that it is in time with the audio source the crossfader points to. Adjust the pitch--and thus, speed--of the record by moving the pitch adjust switch on the other audio source up or down as necessary until the timing matches.
- 4). Slide the crossfader handle fully toward the other audio source. You may do this slowly if the two songs play in harmony. Otherwise, quickly slide the crossfader handle toward the second audio source. Because you cued and aligned the timing, the transition will be natural.
- 5). Slide the crossfader back and forth between your two audio sources as you wish. Leave the crossfader between the two audio sources to play outwardly from both.
