How to Fix a Blown Fuse

    • 1). Go to your fuse box. If you have created a chart this will be simple. If not, this is where the guesswork comes in. Locate the fuse that is blown by locating the room on the chart that is not receiving power. If you do not have a chart and this is the first time you are changing a fuse in the house this will take trial and error. You may need to get someone to help you.

    • 2). Get a car voltage tester (if it is a car you are testing) and test all the fuses. At an auto parts dealer, you should be able to pick up a kit that contain fuses of all different amperages and take care of any other blown fuses.

    • 3). Once you have located the fuse, unscrew it counter clockwise, and remove the fuse from the circuit. Be careful not to touch the metal part of the fuse while it is still in contact with the circuit. This can be dangerous because that is the part that conducts electricity. If it is an automotive fuse then just pop it out and you're done. Be sure not to loosen adjacent fuses when removing an automotive fuse though.

    • 4). Screw your replacement fuse in clockwise. Make sure the fuse is snug in place after you have screwed it in. If it is an automotive fuse then just pop it into place.
