Do you find yourself eating when you're not hungry? Do you do this regularly? If so, then you are eating out of emotion.
Eating food when you are not hungry is what is called emotional eating.
Emotional eating can range from eating out of boredom to eating in front of the TV.
Here's a few tips to avoid emotional eating.
1.
Most people tend to eat when they are bored.
It's a good idea to take up a new hobby or find a good book to read.
The goal here is to take away the boredom and the motivation to munch.
2.
You should drink a lot of water throughout the day.
Drinking plenty of water is beneficial because, not only does it keep you well hydrated, but it also keeps your stomach full, which will keep you from craving food when you don't need it.
3.
It's a good idea to keep healthy snacks with you during the day.
This will keep you from stopping at a fast food chain or hitting the vending machines in the break room.
4.
It's all mental, so you have to put yourself into the proper mindset.
When craving something you know you shouldn't be eating, say to yourself, eating that will give me pleasure for five minutes, reaching my weight loss goals will give me pleasure forever.
If you say that to yourself every time you feel yourself starting to slip, you will avoid those occasional binges.
5.
Habits are formed in three weeks.
Put yourself on a solid nutritional plan, including daytime snacks, and stick to it.
At the end of the three weeks you'll be saying to yourself, I can't believe how easy that was.
Above all, remember we all slip sometimes - it's not always easy.
Don't be so hard on yourself when you do.
It's not the end of the world.
Tomorrow is a new day and the good news you always get a do over.
In golf it's called a mulligan.
You can have as many as you want! Just stick to it.
