    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery terminal by loosening the nut with a wrench. Place the wheel chocks behind the rear tires.

    • 2). Raise the truck on the driver's side with the jack. Place a jack stand under the frame close to the jacking point. Raise the jack stand up to the frame.

    • 3). Put on safety goggles and crawl under the Ranger. Tag the electrical wires on the starter with the marker and masking tape. Disconnect the wires using a wrench to remove the nuts. Unplug the wiring harness from the solenoid by grasping the plastic plug, squeezing the clip and pulling it off. Never just grab the wire and pull.

    • 4). Remove the bolts from the starter using the ratchet and socket. Make sure you are holding the starter up with one hand when you remove the last bolt. It's very heavy and you don't want it to fall off and hit you.

    • 5). Position the new starter in place and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Reconnect the wires according to how you marked them. Tighten the nuts using a wrench.

    • 6). Remove the jack stand from under the truck and lower the truck back to the ground.

    • 7). Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the nut with a wrench. Start the truck and test the installation.
