How to Dismantle an Acer Travelmate 2480
- 1). Shut down your Acer laptop. Close the display panel and disconnect the AC power adapter from the laptop. Unplug and remove all external devices from the laptop. Place the laptop face down on a flat surface, and position it so the front opening edge is facing toward you.
- 2). Slide the battery release lever to the left. Then remove the battery from its compartment along the top edge of the laptop. Remove the hard drive compartment cover and its two Phillips-head screws from the laptop's lower right corner. Remove the single Phillips-head screw fastening the hard drive to its compartment. Grasp the hard drive's protruding pull-tab and lift the hard drive out of its compartment. Set it aside.
- 3). Remove the large hardware compartment cover and its six retaining Phillips-head screws from the left side of the laptop. Locate the memory module inside the hardware compartment. Spread the retaining latches on each side of the module. Tilt the module upward at an angle, and then pull the module from its memory slot. Repeat this for each module you remove.
- 4). Locate the wireless card next to the memory modules. Disconnect the two antenna cables from the wireless card. Press on the card's retention latches to eject the card from its slot on the motherboard. Remove the wireless module from the laptop.
- 5). Remove all remaining Phillips-head screws from the laptop's bottom cover. Flip the laptop over and pull open the display panel as far as possible. Remove the three Phillips-head screws from the laptop's rear panel. These screw fasten the keyboard bezel to the laptop's casing. The bezel is the plastic piece situated above the keyboard assembly. Remove the keyboard bezel from the laptop.
- 6). Remove the two Phillips-head screws from behind the top row of keyboard keys. Place the keyboard face down on the laptop's surface. Disconnect the keyboard's ribbon cable from the motherboard. Remove the keyboard from the laptop.
- 7). Disconnect the large LCD cable from its connector in the upper right corner of the motherboard. Remove the Phillips-head screws from each display hinge. Lift the entire display panel from the laptop's base and set it aside.
- 8). Remove all remaining Phillips-head screws from the laptop's top cover. Disconnect all cables connecting to the motherboard from the top cover. Lift the entire top cover assembly from the laptop's base to reveal the top side of the motherboard.
