Romania Entry Requirements
- A visa is not needed if you are a citizen of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union and most other European countries. If you do not need a visa, then you don't need an entry fee either.
- A visa is needed if you are a citizen of South Africa, India, China, Russia and the Ukraine. It will also cost you $40 for a single-entry visa and $75 for a multiple-entry visa. The place to go is your local Romanian consulate.
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months.
- No immunizations are required. Romania has no infectious risks and there are no poisonous insects. If you are there in the summer, mosquito repellent is a good idea, especially if you plan to visit the Danube Delta.
- Pets must have a veterinary health certificate and a proof of rabies vaccination not older than six months (these are accepted in English, French or German). Large dogs should wear muzzles.
- You will need return tickets or documents (like hotel reservations) that show you are traveling within 90 days of entry.
If you are entering by car, you must obtain a road-toll badge, called RoVinieta, which is available at any border-crossing point, postal office and most gas stations. It costs $3 to $8, depending on car type and length of stay.
U.S., Canadian, and EU driver's licenses are accepted for driving in Romania and should be accepted by any car-rental company.
