Instructions for a Home Heating Duct Insulation Installation
- 1). Calculate the perimeter of your duct. The perimeter is the sum of all the sides, so if your duct is 12 inches wide by 12 inches high, the perimeter would be 48 inches.
- 2). Add 6 inches to the calculation from Step 1. This allowance is for the thickness of the insulation and to account for an overlap seam to seal the insulation.
- 3). Unroll the HVAC duct insulation on the floor and cut a piece at the calculated measurement, using your utility knife.
- 4). Wrap the insulation around the duct and pull it tight. The insulation should overlap itself a few inches.
- 5). Tape the overlap seam with 3-inch foil aluminum tape. This will secure the insulation to the duct.
- 6). Cut insulation and wrap it around the duct until all the ducts are insulated. Ensure all seams are taped, including the seams where the insulation pieces butt together.
