How to Make a Fish Hook From a Deer Toe
- 1). Boil the deer toe for 3 hours. Boiling helps remove the connective tissue inside the toe. Boil the deer toe outdoors in a cooking pot on a portable gas burner. Deer toes contain a strong odor when boiled.
- 2). Cut the inside of the deer toe with a sharp pocket knife to remove the connective tissue. If you cannot remove all of the connective tissue, boil the deer toe again for 3 hours. Use the pocket knife to remove the remaining connective tissue.
- 3). Place the deer toe inside a vice grip. Tighten the sides of the vice grip. Expose the deer toe 1 inch from the top of the vice grip.
- 4). Saw an 1/8-inch piece off the deer toe using a hand saw. Use a utility knife to cut away at the thin piece of deer toe to make a basic hook shape.
- 5). Use rough sand paper to sand the basic hook until it shapes into a fish hook.
- 6). Drill a hole at the end of the deer toe hook using a power drill, using the smallest drill bit.
- 7). Place fish line in the hole and bait your hook.
