Drawstring Bag Directions
- 1). Fold the fabric in half lengthwise on the ironing board, right sides together. Press the fabric with an iron, making a crease at the fold.
- 2). Straight stitch a seam 1/2 inch in on both sides of the bag. Turn the bag right side out. Press the bag with a hot steam iron.
- 3). Fold the open top of the bag in 1/4 inch and press with an iron to make a neat crease. This can be done by hand, slowly and carefully, without straight pins. Fold the fabric over 1 inch again and crease with the iron.
- 4). Make a small slit at the top on either side of the bag. Open the inside fold and lay the two cords inside the 1-inch fold with the ends extending out through the slits at the seams. Straight stitch the inside fold on one side of the bag to secure the cords. Do not sew the fold on the other side just yet.
- 5). Flip the bag over to work on the other side of the bag opening. Slip one end of a cord back through the slit like a "U" and under the other fold to come out the other slit. Pull the second cord the opposite way like a "U" to come out through the other slit. Straight stitch the other half of the bag on the fold to secure the cords inside.
- 6). Hold the ends of each cord together at each end and tie a knot. Both ends of one cord should be extending on either side of the bag. To close, pull the cords and the fabric of the bag will gather. To open the bag, pull the cords open from the center of the closed bag.
