Connect one end of the 3.5 mm audio cable to the iPhone's headphone output jack. Connect the other end of the cable to the computer's microphone jack.

Launch Audacity.

Click "Edit" and then click "Preferences." In the Recording box, use the drop-down list to set Device to "Microphone." Click "OK."

Launch the "Phone" app on the iPhone and tap the "Voicemail" button. Locate the voice mail message you want to record in the list and tap it.

Click the "Record" button in Audacity. Quickly tap the "Play" button next to the voice mail message.

Click "Stop" in Audacity once the voice mail message ends.
