How to Make a Tile Trivet Craft

    • 1). Put the tiles or plates in a bag and take them to a place where you will be able to pound with a hammer, like the garage or driveway. The bag can be plastic or cloth, but try to tie the handles together to secure the top. Lay the bag on the cement and hit the ceramic inside the bag with a hammer. Continue breaking the ceramic until you have small pieces in a variety of shapes and sizes.

    • 2). Gather any pieces of ceramic that may have escaped the bag and move to a flat surface to work. Arrange the ceramic pieces on the lid however you please. Try different arrangements and combinations until you find one you are satisfied with.

    • 3). Glue each ceramic piece onto the lid individually with craft glue. While the glue sets, mix the tile grout and follow the instructions on the package closely. Spread the tile grout on the tile bits, being careful to get it in between the tiles. Wipe off the excess grout from the tops of the tiles with a damp rag. Let it dry.

    • 4). Use the coffee can lid to trace a circle onto the piece of felt and cut it out. Glue the circle to the bottom of the lid to protect the surfaces you will set the trivet on.
