How to Make a Refrigerator Smell Better

    • 1). Empty the refrigerator. Separate any spoiled food and dispose of it; food left too long in the fridge can begin to stink.

    • 2). Add 1 cup bleach and 2 cups water to a bucket. Dip paper towels in the mixture and scrub the inside of the fridge. Bleach cleans and disinfects.

    • 3). Place vegetables and fruit in the produce drawers to keep them fresh longer and avoid the smells they can cause. Organize the rest of the items in the fridge to conserve space. Place odorous items such as cheeses in closed drawers.

    • 4). Put an open box of baking soda at the back of a shelf inside the refrigerator. Baking soda helps neutralize some food odors and can keep the fridge smelling fresh. Replace the baking soda every three to four months.

    • 5). Keep leftovers and opened food items in airtight plastic containers. They help to keep odors in and stop them from escaping the fridge.
